The Benefits Of Massage

Massage is one of the oldest healing arts, Chinese records dating back 3,000 years document its use, the ancient Hindus, Persians and Egyptians applied forms of massage for many ailments, and Hippocrates wrote papers recommending the use of rubbing and friction for joint and circulatory problems.

Moving forward to the 21st century and we can still all benefit from Massage therapy in our lives. Regardless if we lived all these years ago in Egypt or in Edinburgh, Scotland today!

The benefits of massage are far reaching and massage, not only benefits us physically but also mentally and makes a huge impact on our sense of wellbeing. It improves stress levels by relaxing us and by helping us unwind. We can then feel recharged and ready to deal with the World again!

For instance, if someone feels anxious about a particular situation, the effects of this stress can impact not only on their mind but also on their body.

These situations and pressures that cause stress are known as stressors. We usually think of stressors as being negative, such as an exhausting work schedule or a rocky relationship. However, anything that puts high demands on us or forces us to adjust, can be stressful. This includes positive events such as getting married, buying a house, going to college, or receiving a promotion.

Many people are dealing with one or more of these situations on a daily basis. For example work, relationship difficulties, financial problems, being too busy and having children and family issues, need I go on? Often people aren’t even aware they are stressed until something is pointed out to them.

Are you familiar with any of these symptoms?

Loss of memory, inability to concentrate, constant worrying, moodiness, irritability, inability to relax or feeling generally unhappy are all symptoms of stress. If these symptoms are ignored, serious health issues can follow, which could include high blood pressure, cardiac problems, strokes etc. There are a number of things that can help people to relax and unwind, often participating in an activity or sport they enjoy or going out to the cinema can help. But one of the easiest ways to improve your stress levels is by booking a massage therapy session.

Massage sessions, as well as treating and releasing tight, tense muscles and alleviating pain and discomfort, also focus upon deep relaxation within the session. Both being equally beneficial. It depends entirely on the client’s needs and what they hope to gain from the massage session.

One problem people often speak of are knots in their muscles. Knots are points within the muscle, where contracted muscle fibres are unable to release. They are localized and very tender. The client finds great relief from the release of these tight knots. These can also be released in a massage session by using specific massage therapy techniques. When people feel stressed or overwhelmed, it is often hard to see the wood for the trees.

A massage therapy session with one of our Massage therapists at Infiniti wellbeing here in Edinburgh, can help them regain control of their life.

In my experience, regardless of if the treatment is a Full Body Massage or a specific neck, back & shoulder massage, the person can take this time to relax and unwind or alternatively they often like to talk. This process, can be very beneficial for them and they often find answers to their own questions...

Since beginning my massage career in Edinburgh over a decade ago, I have treated many people … Early in my career I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to work as a Massage therapist with Hibernian Football Club for over 4 years. In that time I worked with 3 managers and provided massage therapy for the First team players as well as the Under 19’s. I gained great experience working with these professional footballers.

I then worked with the professional Rugby players Austin Healy and Martin Johnston whilst on their Summer Tour in Scotland. Without regular massage sessions these rugby players would have struggled to cope with the demands of the long training sessions and pre-season games that were played that summer. The Leicester Tigers team all gained the benefit of the massage, so much so, they won their pre-season game against the Edinburgh team on their own soil …

Moving forward into 2013, I naturally still work with a large number of professional sport people that range from golfers to MMA fighters and everyone in between. I also fully appreciate the benefit that massage therapy has made to their performances. I use specific massage techniques to illicit the release of tight, tense muscles which enable them to play sport at a professional level.

However, including all the professional athletes, I have discovered that the person on the street also has much to gain from massage therapy sessions.

They too, can injure themselves in everyday life, competing in sport or as a result of long working days seated at a desk. These injuries can impact on their health and lives causing undue stress and often pain. By incorporating a regular massage therapy routine into their busy lives, we at Infiniti wellbeing, can help them deal with these issues by providing a professional mobile massage therapy service here in Scotland.

As I mentioned earlier, the benefits of massage therapy are varied and far-reaching. Covering every age group from the young to the old and everyone in between. Massage therapy is also an accepted part of many physical rehabilitation programs, massage therapy has also proven beneficial for many chronic conditions, including low back pain, arthritis, bursitis, fatigue, high blood pressure, immunity suppression, depression, and more. We are all very aware that the pressures of everyday life can have a huge impact on our mind and body manifesting itself in a variety of ways. For example, I have found that tension in the neck and shoulders causes restricted movement in the upper back, neck and shoulders and in turn this can often cause headaches.

Massage therapy provided by a qualified massage therapist either as part of a Full Body massage or perhaps a specific neck, back & shoulder massage therapy, can relieve stress and tension in the offending area, allowing the muscles to return to their normal state. The offending muscles, wherever they are situated in the body, can be caused by everyday activities such as housework, gardening or often the stresses of moving home. Another major stressor, as I touched on earlier is people who endure a heavy workload at work. They challenge their posture daily by having to work long hours seated at a desk or computer and often find it hard to factor activities into their everyday life, which would encourage them to relax and unwind after a long day at work. Without a satisfactory work/life balance this often leaves the person feeling stressed and prone to illness.

In these cases, incorporating a regular massage therapy routine into their life, can help relieve the pain associated with tight muscles and it also has the additional benefit of helping them to relax and unwind. Booking an appointment with a qualified massage therapist, who works locally to Edinburgh and the surrounding area can provide huge benefits to the client.

Experts estimate that upwards of ninety percent of disease is stress related. And perhaps nothing ages us faster, internally and externally, than high stress.

While eliminating anxiety and pressure altogether in this fast-paced world may be idealistic, massage therapy at Infiniti Wellbeing can without a doubt, help manage stress.

For the person who receives a professional massage this translates into:

• Decreased anxiety and an increase in the clarity of thought.

• Enhanced sleep quality which produces further clarity of thought and general wellbeing.

• Greater energy to perform in all aspects of life.

• Improved concentration which itself reduces stress and increases efficiency.

• Increased circulation which supports all biological processes.

• Reduced fatigue and so the time people have is far more enjoyable to experience.

Clients often report a sense of perspective and clarity after receiving a Full Body massage session. The emotional balance massage provides can often be just as vital and valuable as the more tangible physical benefits.

As a massage therapist, I often find that clients have been totally unaware that massage therapy can facilitate the release of their tired, tense muscles & in turn improve their quality of life. It often takes a chance encounter with a client, possibly as part of a wellbeing day within their workplace, to allow them to feel the benefits first hand. Often these clients are total converts to the benefits of massage therapy and continue to book regular massage sessions with one of our therapists here at Infiniti Wellbeing in Edinburgh.

Infiniti Wellbeing can accommodate clients by either seeing them at The Treatment Rooms in Stockbridge or alternatively we can provide a fully mobile massage therapy service which includes visiting the client in the home or at their workplace. This massage service gives the client the flexibility of having their Massage therapy at a time and place of their choice. This also allows the client the luxury of relaxing and unwinding at home after their session, without having the stress of driving home through busy traffic etc. which defeats the object of the massage therapy session.

Often Infiniti Wellbeing clients report, that the massage service that we provide is what sets Infiniti Wellbeing apart from other massage companies.

Infiniti clients have also expressed their thanks regarding the flexibility of our mobile massage service, as without this massage service they would find it hard to timetable regular appointments into their weekly schedule.

It is important to drink plenty of water before and after your massage therapy session to flush metabolic waste from the tissues. I would also advise not eating a heavy meal before your treatment. Also allow a few minutes to relax after your massage therapy session if you are attending your appointment at our location in Stockbridge.

Infiniti’s mobile Massage therapy service is provided throughout Scotland. All therapists are fully qualified and insured. Please enjoy our web site and the information offered here for you.
