Backstage Massage

Long working Hours?

Infiniti Wellbeing provides a Mobile Massage therapy service for Film & Television productions across Scotland & the UK.

'Filming a production requires very long hours, sometimes 16 to 18-hour days for the cast and crew.'

Infiniti Wellbeing owner and massage therapist Angie Blackwell said. 'Massage on location provides a welcome break for cast and crew and helps contribute to keeping the staff healthy and re energized and also pain and injury free.'

Acting as a profession places great demands on the body and the mind of an Actor. Actors frequently work unusual hours, often at night, and must be prepared to go on the set regardless of fatigue, muscle pain, nervous tension or illness. The actor may need to conform, his physical self to meet the demands of the character for hours at a time. Actors also spend long hours learning their lines or scripts. This can also cause tension and tightness in the muscles which cause sore shoulders, a stiff neck, and an aching lower back. Tension headaches can often follow.

These symptoms can have a detrimental effect on their performance, which in turn can impact on the success of the whole production. The addition of a mobile massage therapy service holds great advantages to not only the actors but the whole production. This assists the cast and crew in working long hours whilst reducing the risk of injury.

Massage therapy is not only beneficial for the actors but also the Director, producers etc.

In fact anyone working long, arduous hours on a Television/Film set can greatly benefit from massage therapy.

Take the Film location crew, they have a huge responsibility to make sure that everything runs smoothly and the daily manual work may include, driving, loading and unloading vans, lifting and carrying of equipment, sets and lighting.

Film location Crew include many kinds of personnel, such as sound engineers, film location managers, security/bodyguards, truck drivers and caterers, among others. All of which work tirelessly with production companies to ensure everything runs smoothly. All crew can benefit from Infiniti Wellbeing’s Mobile massage therapy service.

So… Why not unwind and rejuvenate by offering your cast and crew healing therapeutic massages or alternatively specific massage therapy, which is used to identify and treat tension and tight muscles associated with long hours working on the set of film or TV productions.

This mobile massage service provides experienced massage therapists, who firstly identifies if the person requires therapeutic massage, which often includes Full Body massage or alternatively specific upper/ lower body massage sessions or if deep tissue massage is preferred. This choice being dependant, on if the person is experiencing any pain or discomfort in a specific area or carrying an injury. The Location Masseuse will then diagnose the problem area and determine the correct combination of therapies before treating and releasing the offending area.

Having any type of injury can impact on performance and/or work rate and can be detrimental to the entire production and can also prove costly. These sessions are tailored to the individual, in terms of treatment and time frame.

Infiniti wellbeing will visit the cast and crew at your film/television location or office.

We provide a professional environment, where cast and crew alike can unwind from daily stressors, or alternatively be treated for injuries by the location masseuse, using specific massage techniques to return the offending muscles to their normal state. Our therapists are committed to providing you with an experience which will benefit your body and also leave you with an increased feeling of wellbeing.

In addition to the location massage, if appropriate, Infiniti Wellbeing massage therapists can also offer home/hotel massage therapy for producers, directors, cast and crew members. Industry professionals can insure complete discretion and ensure the appropriate privacy needs are met.

Backstage Location Massage

All Music, Film or Theatre productions are dependant on a successful, fit and healthy cast and crew. Naturally the focus of any Production is the health and wellbeing of the main performer as without them being fit and healthy the show wouldn’t go on and the results can be costly if concerts have to be cancelled.

However, the Crew are also an equally valuable part of any production, it is they who are involved in setting up the equipment that artists need for the show. They can cover every aspect of the live performance, aside from the actual performing itself!

Backstage Crew include many kinds of personnel, such as sound engineers, guitar technicians, drum technicians, tour managers, production managers, stage managers, lighting technicians, pyrotechnic technicians, security/bodyguards, professional drivers, merchandise crew and caterers, among others. The Crew work tirelessly, working with promoters on Concert tours and also within theatre productions, TV and video shoots and other types of live events. All crew can benefit from our Mobile massage therapy service.

They have a huge responsibility to make sure that the equipment needed for each event is transported safely and correctly from one venue to the next, and daily manual work may include, driving, loading and unloading vans, lifting and carrying audio equipment, sets and lighting, rigging of electrical equipment, checking sound levels; tuning instruments, taking down the set after the show.

The jobs the crew perform are very manual and the crew are required to be strong and also physically fit.

However long days working behind the scenes and the repetitive nature of their career, can impact on their health and wellbeing. They often feel tension and tight muscles in their neck, back and shoulders from lifting heavy equipment and setting up equipment in tight areas backstage. Repetitive movements cause the muscles to tighten and causes restricted movement and in turn this can easily manifest itself as injuries.

Having tight, tense muscles in the neck, upper/lower back and shoulders is detrimental to a crew member’s job description. Often they are  expected to be able to lift and move large, awkward shaped equipment and when the muscles in these areas are tight or tense, they restrict the range of movement in that area. Tight muscles are weak muscles and also very painful. If injury occurs, the crew member will experience pain and discomfort and if the injury is left untreated can affect their flexibility in the area, in some cases they may even experience headaches or migraines. This tension directly impacts on their performance at work and often their work rate is challenged.

This then impacts on the rest of the crew and indeed the whole production.

When specific Massage therapy techniques are prescribed by a massage therapist at Infiniti Wellbeing, pain is alleviated and the offending muscles return to their normal state. This holds huge benefits to any crew member who has continued to work through any Injury. All crew members are a valuable asset to any production and a quick return to fitness is paramount.

Backstage crew and the nature of their work, have a prevalence to upper body injuries due to the amount of manual work they encounter on a daily basis.
However, the Professional Drivers and Transport staff more commonly report lower back and leg pain. The leg pain often stems from tight hamstring muscles. These symptoms are caused by long hours seated in the same position at the wheel of their vehicles. The hamstring muscles shorten generally due to the repetitive nature of their job. The tight hamstring muscles then impact on the lower back, causing the lower back to become stiff and tense. The Piriformis muscle, located in the Glutes can also often becomes tight. This is now very problematic for professional Drivers as it now manifests itself as lower back pain. The lower back is now experiencing a restricted range of movement due to the increasing tightness and tension in the large muscles. Driving can now cause considerable discomfort and stiffness.

Even simple tasks can be very uncomfortable. Then often sciatic nerve problems can occur. This can be very debilitating for the driver.

Infiniti Wellbeing massage therapists can provide relief from this predicament by using specific massage therapy techniques to release the offending muscles in the lower back and legs. The massage therapist releases the muscles and return them to their normal state, at which time the driver then regains full range of movement in the lower back and legs. The back and legs are large muscle groups and when they are tense or tight they can cause considerable pain. This can be easily alleviated with our Mobile Massage therapy service which is available on location throughout Scotland and the UK.

Now it’s time to focus on the Stars of the show!!  Take for example a Concert Tour. The performers find huge benefit in having massage therapy either prior or often after the concert. On the evening itself they usually prefer either a therapeutic massage, which allows them the opportunity to focus the mind prior to their performance.

Occasionally they may suggest a pre/event massage which would invigorate the muscles. In doing so this would allow them to prepare both mentally and physically for the performance.

These techniques are similar to the massage sessions athletes prefer prior to a sporting event.

If massage therapy is chosen after the concert, this is usually always therapeutic massage and would help them relax and unwind after the Event.
Infiniti wellbeing’s mobile massage therapy company will visit the performers and crew at your location. We provide a professional environment, where performers and crew alike can unwind from daily stressors. Or alternatively, be treated for injuries by the location masseuse, using specific massage techniques to return the offending muscles to their normal state. Our therapists are committed to providing you with an experience which will benefit your body and also leave you with an increased feeling of wellbeing.

In addition to the location massage, if appropriate Infiniti Wellbeing massage therapists can also offer home/hotel massage therapy for the performer or crew members. Industry professionals can insure complete discretion and ensure the appropriate privacy needs are met.
All in all it’s a MUST for any successful Backstage Production!

Theatre Production

The Theatre world is very diverse, hosting many different types of performers ranging from professional dancers to Pantomime stars.

Regardless of the performer’s discipline, they can all benefit from Infiniti wellbeing’s mobile massage therapy service. Often performers have a grueling schedule of training and rehearsals whilst preparing for upcoming productions or Tours. The performer often finds it hard to firstly source a qualified, experienced Masseuse and then secure an appropriate time for their massage therapy appointment which fits in with their busy schedule.

There is also the added issues of navigating themselves around an unfamiliar town to attend their appointment.

Infiniti Wellbeing can help by offering a Mobile massage therapy service. We work in Edinburgh and throughout Scotland. Our Qualified Massage therapists are available to visit performers at the Theatre location. Only a small area is required to provide onsite massage therapy sessions.

The massage sessions can be booked at short notice or alternatively booked prior to their arrival.

In addition to the location massage, if appropriate Infiniti Wellbeing massage therapists can also offer massage therapy at the Home/Hotel room massage therapy of performers, dancers, cast and crew members. Industry professionals can ensure complete discretion and ensure the appropriate privacy needs are met.

The masseuse will identify the type of massage therapy the performer needs, either therapeutic massage for relaxation and to unwind or Deep tissue/Sport massage techniques to resolve any tension or injuries they may be encountering. Massage therapy can improve their health and wellbeing by assisting in the elimination of toxins and also by improving circulation to tissues within the body including the skin. It can elongate tight muscles, reducing undue strain on the joints.

For example, if a professional dancer suffers from re-occurring knee pain, this can often be caused by tight quadriceps and Iliotibial band (IT Band). The symptoms are pain or discomfort often in the front or outside of the knee. There is also some residual pain in the outside of the quadriceps.

These symptoms can be easily remedied by a qualified Location masseuse from Infiniti Wellbeing, firstly diagnosing the problem followed by treatment and release of the offending muscles. These specific massage therapy techniques hold great benefits for any dancer by decreasing pain in the knee area and as a consequence of the massage therapy, the dancer will also feel an improved range of movement in the knee area. This treatment would then be followed by advice from the masseuse on specific stretches to target the offending area, as well as the recommended use of ice therapy to encourage healing.

Massage will also speed up the recovery process after hard training sessions and also increase energy flow.

For instance another scenario would be an actor who has to study lines for the production. They can often be left with tension and tight muscles in the neck and shoulder area. This is very common, as when an actor is concentrating on the script, unfortunately they are not focusing on their posture. This then leads to muscle tightness due to tension in the upper back and shoulders. When the upper back becomes tight, we encounter restricted movement and pain often occurs. The implementation of massages therapy with a qualified masseuse, serves to relieve these uncomfortable symptoms leaving the performer pain free.

Just recently, I was contacted by a Star of the Pantomime. He complained of knee pain and he had suffered with this discomfort for around 5 months.
I did a consultation with him and found that his knee issues stemmed from his quadriceps muscles being overly tight. The consequence of this was painful knees. I used specific massage techniques to release the offending muscles and after a further appointment the problem was resolved.  Any idea how he injured his knees?

The knee issues resulted from him wearing high heels at Xmas in the Pantomime!!

These are just a few examples of how injuries can have an impact on the Theatre Industry due to muscles becoming overused. Alternatively posture can be challenged by a heavy workload.

Infiniti wellbeing will visit the cast and crew at your Theatre location. We provide a professional environment, where cast/performers and crew alike can unwind from daily stressors. Or alternatively be treated for injuries by the location masseuse, using specific massage techniques to return the offending muscles to their normal state. Our therapists are committed to providing you with an experience which will benefit your body and also leave you with an increased feeling of wellbeing.

In addition to the location massage, if appropriate Infiniti Wellbeing massage therapists can also offer home/hotel massage therapy for performers, producers, directors, cast and crew members. Industry professionals can insure complete discretion and ensure the appropriate privacy needs are met.
