After leaving school, I started my career as a groom working at the Drum Riding for the Disabled in Edinburgh. Over my time there I progressed from groom looking after 10 ponies to qualifying as an R.D.A riding Instructor.
Whilst still working at the Drum, I also trained at Appin equestrian centre as a working pupil and gained my B.H.S.A.I.
It was here at the Drum I gained my love of fundraising and organised events such as Ladies nights, Star in their Eye’s competitions etc. I also participated in a sponsored Parachute jump from 12,000 feet, managed to talk the army into allowing me to abseil off Fraser's in Edinburgh’s Princes Street! And organised a sponsored Jail break from Saughton Prison where I managed to reach Barcelona in 24 hours!!
I still love fundraising and get a real buzz from it.
Around the age of 21, I was asked by a friend at work, to accompany her to a beginners Karate class! She implied that this would be a one off and she just needed a bit of moral support for the first night! The friend I accompanied to karate on the very first night, lasted 3 months and I continued to train for a further 12 years and attained my Black belt in Wado-ryu Karate!
After many years working at The Drum and after attaining the post of Stable manager. I decided I would like a change my career.
It was then I joined the Fitness Industry. Initially I taught Fitness classes, however, participating in 22 classes a week, which was hard going and this encouraged me to look at new options. It was then I registered to attend the first Premier personal training and sports therapy Diploma course being held in Edinburgh. After completion of the course, I never looked back.
Shortly after graduating, I became Studio manager at Next Generation health club at Newhaven harbour.
My days were then split between working at Next generation in the mornings and in the afternoon working as Sports Massage therapist at Hibernian F.C. These were great times and I gained great experience working with professional footballers.
I then left to work with a PT company in Edinburgh and worked there for a number of years. Throughout this time enjoying offering a Personal training and Sport massage service to many people.
Then around 4 years ago, a hip issue became problematic and I had to have a hip replacement. This was a great shock for me.
However after a break of 3 months off work after surgery, I returned to work and started my own company Infiniti.
This seen the inclusion of my Equi-Core program which combines both my passions horse riding and fitness. In the November of the same year I traveled to Vancouver in Canada to train with Jody Kennett, an expert in the field of fitness pre/post op joint replacement. This was a fantastic experience and I learned a lot form her course.
At the same time I was studying for my REPS Level 4 qualification which I attained in 2011.
My next challenge is the new dance concept Fitsteps which has been created by Strictly’s Ian Waite and Natalie Lowe. The course is the first in Scotland and combines the dance moves from Strictly with fitness with the added bonus of not needing a partner! Watch this space...
